Graduation is a milestone you will remember forever, and your photos should feel just as meaningful. Whether you are finishing high school or earning your college degree, this moment deserves to be captured in a way that feels like you. Here are my top tips to help you feel confident, prepared, and radiant during your session.
Wear What Makes You Feel Amazing
Choose outfits that reflect your style and make you feel confident. Bring two to three looks for variety, and keep everything clean and intentional. Natural hair and makeup photograph beautifully and give your skin a soft, fresh glow.
Kelli's Pro Tip: I always recommend a clean, neutral look and something with texture or personality. Your cap and gown can be added in toward the end for a few iconic portraits.
Choose a Location That Fits Your Vibe
From airy fields to campus landmarks to downtown textures, your location should match your personality. I always help seniors pick a spot that feels authentic and works beautifully with my warm, true-to-color editing style.
Kelli's Pro Tip: Don't put too much pressure on picking a location, that's my job. be sure to communicate what your major is, vibes, and dream for your shoot and i'll do the rest.
Add Personal Touches
Bring a few meaningful items like your cap and gown, your stole, a letterman jacket, sports gear, or any detail that tells your story. These little touches help your photos feel personal and unique.
Kelli's Pro Tip: You spent years getting to this moment, personal touches can help tell your story. Text books, graded papers, stethoscope (for my medical students), track metals, trophies, sports memorabilia, etc. are all great props to add to your photos.
Relax and Trust the Process
Most seniors think they will feel awkward, but it never lasts long. I guide you through a blend of candid moments and classic poses so your photos feel natural, confident, and full of personality. You do not have to know how to pose; that is my job.
Kelli's Pro Tip: Communicate how your feeling what poses you absolutely love and absolutely hate. You won't hurt my feelings. This is your moment, don't be afraid to speak up. But also remember to trust your photographer, a pose may seem silly and end up being your favorite photo in the entire gallery.
Your Photos Will Look Good in Any Lighting
You never need to worry about the weather or the time of day. I am trained and experienced in photographing in every kind of lighting situation, whether that is bright sun, soft shade, cloudy skies, or low light. I use professional techniques and intentional exposure to make sure your skin tones stay true, your colors stay warm, and your photos look consistent throughout your gallery.
Kelli's Pro Tip: Book early. Graduation season fills up quickly, especially for photographers who also photograph couples and weddings. Booking ahead with Your Moments by Kelli gives you priority scheduling, flexibility if the weather changes, and the chance to have your photos edited and delivered well before graduation.
Graduation only happens once, and your photos should celebrate everything you have worked for. With the right preparation and a photographer who sees your story, your images will feel timeless, genuine, and beautifully you.
